Greyson Love arranges and performs Help Me Jesus

bruce

Greyson LoveGreyson Love, aka Grant Taskerud, has recorded his performance and arrangement of my song “When You Are Alone” and he’s titled it “Help Me Jesus”.

The Taskeruds are family friends of the Browns from back in my school days. His father Charlie is a great man who positively influenced me when I was younger. Grant is a chip of the block in a very good way. I’m so pleased with what he did with the song. I think that song in a pro’s hands becomes something really powerful.

Steve Bliss’s version of Don’t Know You

bruce

Steve BlissAfter I learned Grant Taskerud arranged and recorded Help Me Jesus, I was reminded that over a year ago Steve, recorded his performance and arrangement of my song “Dont Know You”.

The Bliss family are a wonderful family doing a great work creating sustainable relief for the poorest of the poor in Panama through the foundation they founded named Deadwheat. Sometimes we have fun together singing Sundays at the Guari Guari, a local pub. He’s a real talent who has taught me a lot.

Don’t Know You

I wrote this song about leaders in Christianity who may be surprised God doesn’t know them in a good way due to their illicit misuse of the Faith. I speculated in the song that these people’s preaching may even help others, but not themselves before their God in the end. The song also refers to the victimization of the innocent by leaders in power. Of course, the song is not imply at all that there are no good ones out there. I think I was kind of upset about something when I wrote the song :).

I think Steve captured the meaning and angst of the song perfectly. I enjoy his guitar work a lot.

When you are alone . . .

bruce

Click below to play one of my earliest songs, and a favorite of mine. I wrote it after getting a telephone call from a prisoner in a federal prison’s psych ward. He claimed he had no clothes, no bed, no toilet and no eating utensils. He also said he thought he saw an angel the night before he was let out of his solitary confinement. That story led me to write this song.
